We began discussing the idea of purchasing e-bikes a few years back, but we were soon overwhelmed by the multitude of options available. We were trying to choose between buying online or from a physical store. What we were certain about, however, was our desire to test ride several models before making a purchase.
Understanding its importance, we visited a local cycling shop in Indiana to explore some options. That day, we test rode two different bikes, which made us question if owning an e-bike would be as enjoyable as we had imagined. We decided to further investigate local options for testing or renting bikes. This led us to discover the Pedego Store, located in Louisville on Bardstown Road. We inquired about rentals and were informed that test rides were free. After receiving instructions and suggestions for riding locations, we nervously left the store parking lot. Well, perhaps I was the only nervous one; Brian was fine. We headed to nearby Cherokee Park, which features a bike lane encircling the park. The hills and curves were exciting, and the scarcity of cars was a bonus. We encountered only a few cars, but the path was bustling with walkers and other cyclists. We switched bikes halfway through to experience different types. We rode for a little over an hour before returning to the store. By then, my mind was made up.
We conducted a bit more research to be certain and returned the following weekend to try a few more Pedego models. It turned out that we both preferred the initial styles we had tested. The only issue I had with the one I rode was the handlebar, but that could be easily changed. For Brian, the decision hinged on the bike's size. He felt more comfortable with the larger version they offered. As long as they could accommodate these preferences, we were decided on the Interceptor for me and the City Commuter for Brian. Now, we wait.....

Finally, on August 17th, after ensuring we were equipped with a bike rack for the car and all the necessary safety gear, we received the call to pick up our new e-bikes. We were thrilled! After all, Pedego's motto is Hello Fun. The pick-up process was incredibly thorough. They ensured we were fully informed about our new bikes. Then, they sent us on another test ride to confirm no additional adjustments were needed. I felt a bit less nervous in some ways, but also felt the need to be extra careful with my new "baby."
Since last August, we have gone on numerous rides and gained insights from each one. We've discovered the types of places we enjoy riding, the distances we're comfortable with, and the directions we want our rides to take us.
We've discovered that despite many people claiming an ebike isn't exercise, it truly is. We ensure we're pedaling frequently, and we've had rides covering 29 and 38 miles. Additionally, several of our rides have been leaving from where we just played pickleball.
We've discovered numerous bike paths that we're eager to explore, and after being unable to ride during the winter months, we can't wait to get back out there. Initially, the concept of e-bikes seemed a bit silly, but it's really about the experience, and we hope to enjoy this for many years to come.
HELLO FUN!
